Placebo

Glasses in Pills, Placebo series
2000
The glasses are sinuously-shaped, egg-like forms that cradle an alluring, colored pill, timidly nestled inside the receptacle. These pills are not representations of pharmacy-issued medication for headaches, depression and other modern ailments. Rather, they are the artist’s critical, ironic comment on contemporary society and the result of careful reflections on our lifestyle with its disturbing but daily use-abuse of medications of every type.
The artist’s triumph is that these glasses become the alleged-cure placebo: their brazen claim is to dislodge pharmaceutical pills and replace their chemical cures with a hearty, pick-me-up laugh.
